Who can study at sfi (swedish for immigrants)

Conditions:

1. Be registered in the municipality you apply to. Otherwise you need to contact the Adult Education Center in your municipality.

2. Have a residence permit

3. Be at least 16 years old

4. Have received your Swedish personal identity number

***** EU/EEA Citizens or Citizens of Switzerland:

If you are an EU/EEA citizen or citizen of Switzerland and a resident in Stockholm municipality, you can study sfi. (Be prepared to show your passport)

Lesson times

Day (Monday-Friday, 20 hours a week) OR

Evening hours (2-3 times a week, approximately 6-9 hours a week)

Study paths, levels and options

Sfi courses are available at multiple study paths and levels. The path and level you should join is determined by an Education Officer at Vuxenutbildningscentrum, depending on your educational background and your future plans. There are many kinds of sfi courses designed to suit your particular needs.

Study path 1 – Course A, B, C and D

Study path 2 – Course B, C and D

Study path 3 – Course C and D

*****The duration of the course varies depending on your progress, educational background, previous language knowledge and your planned study option

If you already have a grade from previous sfi studies in another municipality, be prepared to show it

Grades

After completing a course, you are given a grade. Grades from course D will be sent to you. If you want your grades from courses A, B and C you need to contact your school.

If you need a copy of a grade that was issued before July 1st 2016, please contact Vuxenutbildningscentrum.

UHR for higher education from abroad 

If you have higher education, post secondary vocational education or upper secondary education, from another country, we recommend you to contact the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR), for an assessment of your grades.

Register for sfi

1. Apply for sfi by calling Adult Education Center (Vuxenutbildningscentrum)

– By calling Vuxenutbildningscentrum OR

If you have previous knowledge of Swedish, you must visit Vuxenutbildningscentrum for a level test for a placement in the right course.

– Apply online: If you have a university background and you are a beginner of Swedish language, you are also welcome to apply online.

In order to apply online, the following criteria must be met:

1. Have a complete personal identity number (personnummer)

2. You are registered in the municipality of Stockholm (Stockholms kommun)

3. You are a complete beginner of Swedish language (please pay a personal visit to our center if you have some basic knowledge of the Swedish language)

4. You have lived in Sweden for less than 3 years

5. You have acquired university studies

6. You can start your studies within 2–4 weeks (if not please apply later)

Apply for SFI Re-enrolment

1. If you have studied in Stockholm previously and taken a break of less than six months, you can re-enrol by contacting your school 

2. If you have been away for more than six months, you should contact the Vuxenutbildningscentrum (Adult Education Center).

Changing schools

1. If you want to change schools, you can do this between courses – Call Vuxenutbildningscentrum (Adult Education Center).

2. Studying in another municipality

a. If you are registered as living in Stockholm but need to study in another municipality, you must send a letter to the Vuxenutbildningscentrum (Adult Education Center) with the application from the municipality in which you want to study. You must also explain why you want to study in another municipality.

b. If you are registered in another municipality, but want to study in Stockholm City, you must send an application to the municipality where you live.
